
Keeping Your Animals Warm (The Right Way)
Most heat lamps use those old tungsten wires. They work, sure, but we do things differently. We use carbon fiber filaments. Here’s why that matters: instead of trying to heat up all the air in a room—which is a slow and wasteful process—these lamps use shortwave infrared radiation. It basically beams the heat directly into the animal’s body. It’s a more stable, direct kind of warmth. Getting the power right Depending on where you are, you’ll probably grab a 110V or 220V version. We focus on wattage density because we want that heat to actually sink deep into the muscle tissue, not just warm the skin. But a word of caution. Higher wattage means it heats up faster, but you’ve got to make sure your wiring can actually handle the load. Also, don’t go overboard. If you put a massive lamp in a tiny crate, you’ll bake the place. That just stresses the animals out. Built for the mess Barns and kennels are tough environments. They’re dusty, they’re humid, and they’re generally not “clean.” That’s why we wrapped the carbon fiber weave in a high-purity quartz tube. Unlike metal, carbon fiber doesn’t oxidize nearly as fast. It just lasts longer. We also put specialized seals on the end caps to keep moisture out. If a little dampness leaks into the vacuum, the filament snaps. Simple as that. Putting them to work The best part? These are basically drop-in replacements. If you have a standard heat bulb socket, you’re already halfway there. Hook them up to a simple thermostat, and you can just set it and forget it. Plus, there’s a nice side effect. Carbon fiber gives off a softer, more diffused light than those harsh halogen bulbs. Your animals can actually sleep without feeling like they’re under a spotlight. One thing, though.Be careful with the glass. Quartz is brittle. If you’ve got animals that like to kick or bump into things, please—for the love of everything—put a stainless steel mesh guard over the lamp. One good hit from a hoof or a paw and the whole tube will shatter. Stay safe.
